The Grand Canyon- a short over view
Ever
heard of the mighty Colorado River which created the huge canyon? Huge canyon?
The canyon which is created by the Grand River is known to us by the name,
Grand Canyon. The people who have not visited Grand Canyon may ask: How deep
can a canyon be? There are many canyons around this world, what makes this
particular canyon so special? The Grand canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up
to 18 miles (29 km) wide and
attains a depth of over 6,093 feet
(1,857 meters). Now the people who ask these questions can imagine how big the
canyon is or how big the river was. Was? The climate change due to global
warming is shrinking the Colorado River: it threatens the people who live in Los
Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Tucson, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Albuquerque. Grand Canyon is entirely situated in Arizona. Most
of the Grand Canyon lies
within Grand Canyon National Park
and is managed by the National
Park Service. Every year, more than 5 million people visit Grand
Canyon National Park. Some inquisitive people might ask: why is the Colorado River
named Colorado River? When did this natural wonder come to existence? Colorado River
got its name because of the red silt which it contains. This natural wonder of
the world was created by the red river; Colorado on 26 February 1919. There was also a settlement on the Grand Canyon
where people lived in the early ages, but now we can only see the remains of the
city. As time flew by, the Grand Canyon became one of the Wonders of the World
and now is visited by everyone on this planet.
