Taj Mahal- A wondrous beauty in India
Have you ever seen a palace which is purely built of white marble or have you ever heard of a mahal that glows with pink hue at dawn, milky white at dusk, and shimmers golden when the first ray of the moonlight strikes it? You must be wondering whether any place like that exists in real life, right. But let me tell you that this place exists in the real world. And it is situated in our motherland, India. This place is also one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites located at Agra, Uttar Pradesh. You must have guessed it by now, yes, it is the magnificent Taj Mahal.
Taj Mahal is built by The Fifth Mughal Emperor: Shah Jahan, for his beloved
third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, and this masterpiece
is situated on the banks of the mighty Yamuna River. Taj Mahal is actually a Mausoleum in which the bodies of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal rest in peace. Taj mahal’s real meaning is ‘crown
of palaces’. This crown of palaces is
the sweet fruit of the hard work of 22,000 laborers, painters, stone cutters,
and embroidery artists and the work of 1000 elephants. 17 years of patience and
backbreaking work of Shah Jahan and other people was really worth it.
There is a beautiful white dome that rises to 115 feet called the onion dome. And did you know that there is a rumor
that the emperor ordered to chop off hands of workers so that no one could
replicate the monument. Cruel isn’t it? Ok, Let alone the negative points for
now and let’s talk about the features surrounding the Taj mahal. Around the
building there are 4 minarets that are slightly tilted away from the building.
Why? In case there is an earthquake in that area, the pillars will collapse but
away from the tome and this tomb which personifies symmetry is unaffected. There
is also an eye striking garden, a reflecting pool, a mosque, and other
mausoleums around the Taj mahal.
Do you have secrets? Obviously you do and so does Taj mahal. Taj Mahal has
been built on a Shiva temple! Horrifying fact right? Government has put a ban
on further research on this topic fearing communal violence so I am going to
keep my lips sealed on this. There are many other secrets like this one. There
are secret passages and rooms which are sealed by the government for people not
to misuse it. There is also a stream of water which flows out of the Taj from
nowhere! Did you know that the tomb of shah Jahan is uplifted more than his
wife’s tomb? This shows male supremacy in olden days too. It is also believed
that the sprites of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal
dance at night! Is Taj mahal really haunted? I hope the next generations of
humans prove it wrong as I do not want to have nightmares about the couple
dancing in Taj mahal. It could also be one of you who prove this theory
wrong. Thank you for listening to my
speech.
