Do we need 'Fashion'?
Fashion, a popular or the latest style of clothing, hair, decoration,
or behavior which is adapted by people. Why do we dress up? Why do we tend to
buy clothes which are worn by models? It
is fashionable and when somebody is a part of a society they dress accordingly
with a touch of fashion. They keep their dignity while wearing a modern trendy
dress and they still do not cross their comfort zone. These outfits also help
to build up our confidence while facing a large audience and it also enhances
our value in the profession and the way we dress reflects on our behavior and
dignity. We also grab many people’s attention and slowly we start to become
popular.
Does this help only the people who
wear it? No. The world works with demand and supply policy. The demand for
trendy clothes produces money for clothing designers and the manufacturers.
The clothing designers make a lot of profit because it is a money-making
business and it also gives employment to many other people. But on the other
hand, some people argue that clothing designers just cater to the people’s
needs and fashion is not just for the designers to make a profit out of it. If
there are no customers, then the designers go into loss. Designers just help to
satisfy customers. So if there is more demand, then the income of the designers
is also more. Finally, the incomes of the designers depend on the customers.
The designers make the clothes but
who advertises it? Yes, models. Models just help in marketing new trends. They
wear what people admire and walk on the catwalk stage and make us people happy.
But are the models happy with their profession? The public want the models to
look lean, gorgeous, and in shape. For them to exhibit these qualities, they
need to take part in heavy workouts, and dieting which leads to health
problems. For the models not to feel hungry they consume alcohol or they become
drug addicts which lead to certain death after a period of time. If models set
their limits then it is ok. As they say ‘Too much is too bad’.
The modeling profession is Pandora’s
Box. Who is to be blamed for the tragic deaths? The designers, or the models
themselves. Or the materialistic society which acts as the driving force for
miseries which culminates in a vicious cycle. Only the people who know to
channelize the materialistic ideas and fight competitions can shine in this
world. Materialism is the base for fashion. People state comparisons between
each other which leads to a materialistic attitude.
Fashion affects everybody. But
are children included in ‘everybody’? Yes. Fashion influences children the
most. When their young brains get exposed to the glamour in this world, they
start to concentrate on looking better whereas they should be burying their
heads into books and studies. Youngsters are more vulnerable to succumb to
commercial gimmicks of fashion designers. They are more prone to these
advertisements as they are everywhere; on streets, on walls, on TV, and in the
newspaper too. Students can dress up but they should have their limits and not
forget their tradition and culture.
We can have fashion but everyone
should know their limits and stick to it. As Mark twain stated ‘too much is too
bad’. In my perspective, we need fashion to satisfy our sartorial needs, to
gain popularity, to seek attention, and to enhance our value in our respective
professions. And side- by -side we should also respect our tradition even
though we are modern.
